About ONEOK Field

ONEOK Field is a baseball park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s located in the Greenwood district adjacent to downtown Tulsa. It is the home of the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas League as well as FC Tulsa of the USL Championship since 2015.

Features

ONEOK Field was designed for comfort with seating for a reported 7,833 fans. But it is capable of holding up to 9,000 spectators for certain special events. In fact, the record attendance was set on May 7, 2010, when the stadium had 9,417 attendees for a Bedlam Series game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys.

Including the cost of purchasing adjacent land for complementary development, ONEOK Field was designed with a total project budget of about $60 million.

Originally, the ballpark was intended to be direct connected to its urban surroundings than the old stadium was at the fairgrounds. The intent was to keep the same kinds of luxury amenities available compared to major-league ballparks. Because the designers wanted to please fans, players, and coaches.

Team Summary

FC Tulsa is a professional American soccer team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They compete in the USL Championship , which is the second tier of the American soccer pyramid.

The club was first founded as Tulsa Roughnecks FC by Jeff and Dale Hubbard. They were brothers and co-owners of the Tulsa Drillers minor league baseball franchise.

The new team was announced as the Tulsa Roughnecks FC as an homage to the original Roughnecks, who played in the original North American Soccer League from 1978 until the league folded in 1984. The original team was best known for winning Soccer Bowl ‘83 and were considered an excellent team by some. The name was also chosen as it received nearly half of the votes in a “Name the Team” contest held in February 2014.

When the team logo, colors, and uniforms were introduced on September 2, 2014, it used an oil derrick in the logo. This is because it both references Tulsa’s “Oil Capitol” heritage as well as the dictionary definition of “roughneck” which referred to workers in an oil-well drilling crew.

But then, on August 20, 2018, it was announced that the Craft family, composed of Tulsa natives and brothers JW, Ryan, and Kyle Craft, acquired the club from the Drillers and Prodigal Soccer. This led to speculation on what changes might be made. And sure enough, on December 4, 2019, the club announced that it was renaming to FC Tulsa beginning with the 2020 season.

Oklahoma City Energy FC

FC Tulsa’s main rival are the Oklahoma City Energy FC. This is primarily because both teams are located in Oklahoma. Supporters groups of both teams established a traveling trophy, a four-foot wrench painted with the colors of each team on either side. The trophy would be awarded to the regular season winner of the derby.

Achievements

FC Tulsa has been around for nearly a decade. And while they have not had a championship season in that time, they have qualified for three separate playoff runs. They have also fielded some powerful players, including Joaquin Rivas who topped their goal scoring records with 12 goals scored during the 2018 season.
